12 weeks to SMH half - week 1 of 12 (ending 4.3.07)

Decided to make this race my next major goal and hopefully run somewhere under 82 mins (or maybe even a bit quicker).

Reasonably happy with the last six weeks worth of running averaging 98.5 k / week. A couple of good runs/ sessions and a few ordinary ones as well. I'll be glad when this humidity has left and cooler weather comes along.

Haven't had a chance to blog last weeks running so here goes.

Monday 7pm - 14k easy run in 63.30 (4.32 pace) from home along the Bay and back via Balmain and Glebe.

Tuesday 7pm - 7 x 2 mins with 1 min float - covered 5.4k in 20.30 when I pulled the plug. Very humid and hot. Totally stuffed afterwards. total 14k including w/u and c/d.

Wednesday 5pm - 18k run in 85.30 (4.45 pace) from work to home via Gladesville Bridge - felt really tired, again it was very humid and warm at 5pm. Added a few extra hills in round Hunters hill, I was running so slowly, I figured going up some very steep hills couldn't make the run any worse.

Thursday 5pm - ran home from work via Harbour Bridge - good steady paced tempo run of 10k in 40.05 (not including traffic stops). Did 10 mins of 30 sec on/off at Sydney Uni plus a 1.5k jog home - total 14k. Again a very humid and hot run.

Friday - rest. It was Bella's 13th Birthday today and a family dinner out.
Saturday 7am - Striders race at Homebush. Late night before, too much Playstation singstar and not enough sleep ! Wasn't in the mood for a race and after a moderate w/u was already sweating heaps and could feel the heart rate elevated. I don't really like this course at all too many twists and turns and 2 laps of the sandpit does my head in every time plus the ridiculous start in the carpark - aaghhh. Ran o.k. till 5k but was fading fast and by 7k back up the hill I had completely lost it. Jogged the last 3k with Pete Truscott to finish in 39.30 - blah ! At least I did a w/u and cooldown today - total 15k.

Sunday 6.30 pm - Another late night with Bella having a few friends around for a sleep-over, more singstar and dvds and then the girls didn't go to bed until 2.30am. Decided not to run until the evening, just as well. It still hadn't cooled down when I finally got out the door at 6.30pm. Ran shirtless down to the Bay and by 6k I was dripping with sweat. Said g'day to Caro and Owly who were out late trying to avoid the heat as well. Ran 1.5 laps of the bay and then back up thru Balmain to home via Glebe park. 25k in 1h53 (just over 4.30 pace) Good solid run - made up for yesterday.
Total 100k for the week.
