Weekend at Bundanoon

Nine families from the Inner West descended on Bundanoon YHA for the weekend - we hired out the whole joint. Good fun having the run of the place. Nice relaxing weekend drinking coffee and reading the newspaper interspersed with some running and bushwalking.

Saturday

Left YHA at 8.20 am wearing long sleeve dry-fit top and short sleeve top over, tights, gloves & beanie. Not as cold as I thought it might be (no wind) and was dressed just right. Ran from YHA into Morton National Park down the steepest road I've ever run down (and run up again later).

Fiona, the kids and I have been to Bundanoon lots of times before - the Southern Highlands is our default getaway destination. It is about 1.5-2hrs from home depending on destination with Bundanoon being at the further end of the spectrum. In fact, we are going to stay at some cabins at Fitzroy falls in the 2nd week of school holidays (3 weeks time) - lots of trail runing, bushwalking and horseriding.

The park has several lookouts strung together by some well groomed gravel service trails and I basically did the loop, did it again and again for good measure with a side trip down to the Erith coal mine on the first loop - hence the slow k's climbing out again. Made up a bit of extra distance by running out along the old Wingello road which I knew would be quiet and then returned. Total 20k in 103 minutes = 5.09 m/k. Not bad considering their was a 7.19 k and 3 x 6 min plus k's as well. Reasonably hilly route with 2 big climbs - one out of coalmine and the other back out of the park to the town centre.

Sunday
More of the same. Similar route as yesterday only 2 laps of park and return - bit faster today (no coal mine) 13k in 63 minutes = 4.53 pace.

Total for weekend 33k.
Total for week = 77K.
