Striders 10k - Lane Cove - Race 1 - 38.29

Up early this morning to meet Vat and J.D for a lift to the first race of Striders 10k for 2006.
February at Lane Cove usually means a slowish race as everyone comes out of summer hibernation, training for six foot/canberra and the usual high humidity/temps of late summer and of couse Lane Coves infamous hilly course - today's race was no different.
Had a nice and easy warm-up of 4ks @ 5.0min pace but when I got back to the start there was no water (I'm sure there usually is.) Also forgot to have my glass of milo before leaving home so started the race with a dry mouth.
A big turn out today too with 331 starters and plenty of good runners as well.
Got to 5k in 19.14 and back in 19.15 for a 38.29. Only 7 secs outside my course p.b. so pretty happy - easily my best time for a February race, though, I thought I would sneak under 38 mins today - have to wait until Homebush next month.
Managed a 2.5k recovery jog with Marty for a total of 16.5k.
Great to catch up with so many people today as well - gotta love Striders races.
