Striders race 7 - Lane Cove - 38.03 P.B.
An 8 sec p.b.
Happy enough with the effort with no taper and a full marathon training load – look out Nth Head next month. Puts me into 4th spot in the 10k series (Vets) unfortunately behind Sincs, Action and AndrewT whom I have no hope of beating unless they miss a few races - good to be amongst such esteemed company anyway.
Felt tired this morning – had an average night’s sleep. The weather was miserable with occasional heavy downpours and it would have been easier to stay in bed this morning.
Ran the first 4k in a tick over 15 mins and the last 4k in the same – just the hilly middle 2k I struggled with a bit today. Felt like I was hardly moving but still managed to keep the k’s under 4.00 min pace. 5k in 19.02 and back in 19.01 by my watch, so nice even splits. As usual, Striders volunteers put up a great effort in trying conditions – which reminds me, after the marathon, I’ll have to volunteer to host a 7am star or help out in some capacity.
Truckie had some samples of the proposed new Striders gear which I thought looked great, hopefully the committee supports it.
A bit of a drama Saturday night when Fiona had to go to Hospital after a severe reaction to some hairdressing products. She was having her hair colored when she didn’t feel well and started getting a rash and her heart rate and blood pressure went thru the roof. After some steroids and anti-histamines and an E.C.G and chest x-ray to rule out any heart damage she eventually recovered quite quickly and came home – but what a shock, thankfully she feels fine today.

Congrats on the PB Steve. I know yet again it is in that range of 38:05 to 38:20. Your sure to punch out to 37:30 when you hit the taper at North Head.
