Canberra No show
I was sure that I mentioned in my blog that I am not running the Canberra Marathon - I have certainly told everyone that I usually run with that I am not, but going back over the posts, it seems I failed to do so.
I certainly decided quite a while go now that I wasn't going to run -you need only look at my training diary to see that I haven't done a long run any longer than 28k for weeks and weeks.
I have no time to do the quantity and quality of training that is required for the level of performance that I would like to achieve. Work is very busy with a new exciting project to start on - Chatswood Civic Place and finishing off of another - Faculty of Law Buildings at Sydney Uni. Football, Netball, Runclub plus family life plus the everpresent memory of Daz's death all adds up to little motivation and even less time. Sure, I could lower my standards but I never have yet ! Don't get me wrong though - I still plan to be as competitive as I can in the Striders 10k series (Homebush not withstanding).
On the injury front, it appears I have a grade 1 tear of the hamstring and calf muscle (the upper bit behind the knee) which means a bit of T.L.C for the next few weeks.
See you round the bay.

By the sounds of it, 26, you made the right decision. I am constantly amazed at how you and Tim manage to balance all the training with work commitments and Run Club and obviously spending important time with your families - apparently it isn't always easy!
Although the injury isn't great news, at least you now know what is going on and will have it under control for a great showing at the next Striders!
At the very least, the fam will love having you around more over the next few weeks - and you will be able to manage Bella and Ally's schedules!
Good luck,
Siobhan.
Steve, I was wondering where the training was heading, but I figured that it was hammy-related rather than change-of-direction-related.
Getting the right family balance is absolutely number one, and good on you for doing so.
Having said that, always remember that there's great joy in running with slower folk and encouraging them to new heights. That's not lowering your standards - it's too rewarding to be called that.
Treat that hammy nicely :-)
Bruce
I should have noticed but then again any running looks long with my present state. Hope you get that hamstring repaired ok.
