look at the old man run - he's in front of Daddy
Some kid said that to his mother as I passed by them on the corner of George and Argyle sts - thanks a lot !!! ;)
66 sec pb for me which included a 40 sec toilet stop at Mrs macs chair behind the biggest tree I could find.
Finish time 84.15(84.09 net time) - first 1/2 mara at sub 4 min pace.
Had a rest day on Friday and a chance to catch up with friends for pizza and wine.
Got out for a run early Saturday afternoon after netball was over - just jogged around the local oval for 21 mins (5k) probably faster than I should have but I just felt really good.
Woke up on Sunday morning (after laying out all the gear the night before) wondering why the hell I do this - it would have been easier to sleep in and run around the Bay in 3hrs time. After training hard for an event I often go thru this crisis of confidence just before the race - should I have done more, maybe I won't run well, just easier to pull out etc etc.
Caught a cab from Newtown into the city and dumped the gear at the Striders host residence ( excellent location), said g'day to the usual suspects and got in a 10 min or so warm-up to the start area - managed to settle in amongst the other dozen or so Striders positioned near enough to the front although by the time the preferred runners jumped in we were now about 5 rows back and then suddenly the gun went off - what the ..... Didn't wear the Garmin as after the last couple of weeks runs around the city I knew it would be a hindrance rather than a help going thru the Pitt st canyon.
Went out a bit too fast but not uncomfortable except for the desperate need to take a leak - held on until the Botanic gardens when I found the largest tree I could see and wasted about 30-40 secs. After that I pretty much made up the ground I lost over the next 3 or 4 k's and just stuck to 4 min k's the rest of way.
Before I started I had 2 goals - to better my p.b (85.15) and to run under 4 min k's (84.24) which I made by 10 secs or so - fantastic !
Total for the week 85k.

Sub 4, Sub 4, Sub 4. Got to love those words for a half. Congratulations Steve on a fantastic run. And it was good to talk to you at the Striders house post race. Cheers.
Great run Steve. It was nice to catch up afterwards and share the excitement with you. Well deserved mate.
Good job, 26 - shame about the stop, but it does show the benefits of training smart.
Well done on the pb, and good strong finish.
I'll be able to look out for you next time, and I might be able to go with you and coaster.
cool! thats a good time,no?
Just chipped in to say, your log book is an inspiriation!
Fantastic effort there!
Cheers!
...and I've only just managed to get sub 4 over 3k... :-) That's an awesome run! No reason for crises of confidence there.
Bruce
That's a good run for an 'old man'. 3:59.3 per km! Definitely sub-4s.
